Los Angeles, USA – On Tuesday afternoon, Los Angeles police officers forcefully apprehended multiple individuals suspected of looting a retail store in the Mid-City area, as civil unrest linked to immigration protests intensifies across Southern California.

A crowd gathered outside a convenience store on Pico Boulevard as several individuals allegedly broke in and began stealing merchandise in full view of witnesses. Officers responded swiftly, tackling at least three suspects to the ground.

Eyewitness videos circulating online show uniformed LAPD officers pinning suspects down on the sidewalk as bystanders shouted and recorded the scene. The incident took place just after 2:30 PM local time.

This latest looting episode is part of a broader pattern of disorder sweeping through parts of Los Angeles this week, following controversial federal immigration raids and clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement.

According to LAPD Chief Dominic Morales, the department received over a dozen calls about coordinated looting attempts in various retail zones. “We are responding with urgency and precision,” he stated during a press briefing.

Tensions have risen sharply since the federal deployment of ICE agents and National Guard units last Friday. Protesters accuse the government of violating civil rights, while authorities cite national security concerns following recent terror threats.

The suspects tackled by police are reportedly in custody and face charges of burglary and resisting arrest. Police have not released their identities, citing the ongoing investigation.

Store owners in the area expressed frustration and fear, with some boarding up their windows preemptively. “We’re just trying to survive,” said Maria Alvarez, owner of a nearby clothing boutique. “This city feels like it's on fire.”

Social media reaction to the police response was polarized. Some users praised officers for protecting businesses, while others criticized what they called excessive use of force in minority neighborhoods.

Legal observers are also monitoring LAPD tactics closely. The ACLU of Southern California has issued a statement calling for transparency and warning against “a return to heavy-handed policing.”

The incident underscores the fragile relationship between the community and law enforcement in the wake of mounting political and social turmoil.

City officials have urged calm, promising an independent review of all incidents involving police force during the protests and subsequent looting attempts.

Meanwhile, Governor Gavin Newsom has not ruled out deploying additional resources to Los Angeles if the situation escalates. “We’re watching hour by hour,” a spokesperson told reporters.
