Trans activists clash with Christian rally in Seattle; mother and children targeted, 8 arrested, FBI opens investigation.
Seattle protest turns violent as trans activists clash with Christian
parents and kids outside City Hall, prompting FBI investigation.
Seattle, WA | A religious rally organized by
Christian group Mayday USA outside Seattle City Hall descended into chaos
Tuesday as trans rights activists counter-protested the event, resulting in
heated confrontations, arrests, and national political attention.
A viral clip captured a disturbing moment in which a Christian mother
carrying a baby was surrounded by shouting demonstrators. She, her partner, and
three children were caught between police lines and a surging crowd. “Get the
kid out of here!” one protester shouted as officers tried to separate the
family. The scene quickly escalated, with insults hurled at both demonstrators
and law enforcement.
Mayday USA, co-founded by Ross Johnson and Jenny Donnelly, held the
rally in response to comments from Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, who previously
labeled the group “extreme right-wing antagonists.” Their growing movement,
#DontMessWithOurKids, aims to defend traditional family values and religious
freedom.
Tuesday’s demonstration drew roughly 500 religious supporters and 250
counter-protesters. Police made eight arrests, including one for assaulting an
officer, though no serious injuries were reported. The situation mirrored a
similar protest over the weekend that led to 23 additional arrests.
Tensions spiked further when Mayday's official social channels issued a
nationwide call to action: “We’re not getting run over on this one. RALLY
EVERYONE TO GET IN THE CARS & AIRPLANES!”
Protest signs from the Christian group read “Jesus Loves Seattle,” “Apologize
or Resign,” and “Free Speech for All.” Despite a significant police presence,
clashes broke out near the steps of City Hall and temporarily shut down 4th
Avenue.
Seattle Mayor Harrell’s previous comments drew sharp rebuke from faith
groups, and on Tuesday, national Republican figures and federal agencies
weighed in. The White House Faith Office issued a statement defending religious
expression, with adviser Paula White-Cain stating, “We affirm the fundamental
rights to free speech and religious freedom for all Americans.”
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino added that federal agents would “fully
investigate allegations of targeted violence against religious groups,”
warning, “Freedom of religion isn’t a suggestion.”
Mayday’s website outlines its ideological stance, saying, “God made each
of us male or female. Biological gender is sacred and cannot be changed through
imagination, behavior, or medical intervention.” The group is known for
opposing what it calls “the mutilation and destruction of biological gender.”
With Seattle preparing for additional demonstrations and political
fallout, city officials remain under pressure to safeguard the rights of all
parties while preventing further violence.
