These standards govern how CRN Times reports, verifies, edits, publishes, updates and corrects journalism. They are intended to protect accuracy, independence, transparency and reader trust.
1. Accuracy
Accuracy takes priority over speed. CRN Times aims to publish information that is clear, supported by reliable evidence and presented in appropriate context.
When information is uncertain, preliminary, alleged or developing, the article should make that status clear. Headlines, summaries, photographs, captions and social-media posts should accurately represent the underlying reporting.
2. Verification and Sources
Journalists and editors should use primary and authoritative sources whenever practical. Sources may include official documents, government records, direct interviews and statements, court records, legal filings, company disclosures, scientific papers, research institutions, original datasets, public databases and direct observations.
Material claims should be independently checked where circumstances allow. A single unverified social-media post should not be treated as conclusive evidence of an important factual claim.
3. Attribution
CRN Times does not copy or lightly rewrite another publisher's work and present it as original journalism. When another organization has obtained exclusive or original information, CRN Times should clearly credit that organization.
Quotations, statistics, photographs, documents and claims originating elsewhere should be appropriately attributed.
4. Originality and Editorial Value
CRN Times expects original reporting, original analysis, meaningful synthesis, verification, context, explanation or other substantial editorial value.
Republishing, copying, translation-only reproduction or lightly rewriting third-party material without meaningful original contribution is inconsistent with our editorial standards.
5. Bylines and Responsibility
Every article should identify an accountable author or editorial desk. Named contributors are appropriate when one person has primary responsibility; joint bylines may be used when multiple identifiable contributors materially participated; desk bylines may be used for genuinely collaborative, continuously updated or newsroom-produced coverage.

6. Artificial Intelligence and Automation
AI-assisted tools may support tasks such as transcription, translation assistance, research organization, internal summaries, headline suggestions, formatting and editing. Human editorial responsibility remains required for published journalism.
Names, dates, quotations, statistics, legal claims, medical claims and source attribution should be checked against reliable sources before publication. CRN Times does not knowingly publish fabricated quotations, invented sources or unverified AI-generated claims as factual reporting.

7. Anonymous and Confidential Sources
Anonymous sourcing should be reserved for circumstances in which the information is important, the source has a credible reason not to be identified and the newsroom can reasonably evaluate the source's access to the information.
Articles should provide readers with as much useful context about an anonymous source as safety and confidentiality permit.
8. Fairness and Right of Reply
When reporting contains significant criticism, accusations or disputed claims about an identifiable person or organization, CRN Times should make a reasonable effort to seek a response before publication when circumstances allow. Responses should be represented fairly and in context.
9. Headlines, Images and Context
Headlines must accurately reflect the article and should not materially exaggerate the underlying facts. Photographs and video should not be presented in a misleading context.
Illustrations, materially manipulated images or AI-generated visuals should be identified when readers could reasonably mistake them for documentary photography or authentic evidence.
10. Crime, Violence and Sensitive Coverage
Coverage involving crime, victims, children, death, war, disasters and other sensitive subjects should avoid unnecessary sensationalism and gratuitous graphic detail.
Allegations should not be presented as proven facts before they have been established by reliable evidence or appropriate legal proceedings. Extra care should be taken with the identities and personal information of minors, victims and vulnerable people.
11. Health and Science
Medical and scientific claims require particular care. Reporting should rely on credible evidence, qualified institutions, original research and appropriate expert sources when practical. Preliminary research and scientific uncertainty should be described accurately.
Unverified medical claims should not be presented as established facts.
12. Opinion and Analysis
News reporting should distinguish facts from opinion. Opinion, commentary and analysis should be labeled or presented clearly enough for readers to understand the nature of the material.
Opinion content remains subject to standards against fabrication, plagiarism and material factual misrepresentation.
13. Conflicts of Interest
Editorial decisions should not be influenced by personal financial interests, gifts, advertisers, sponsors or undisclosed political or commercial relationships. Material conflicts should be disclosed or the assignment should be reassigned when appropriate.
14. Advertising and Sponsored Content
Advertising must be distinguishable from independent journalism. Advertisers and sponsors do not receive editorial approval rights over independent CRN Times reporting merely because they purchase advertising or enter into a commercial relationship with the publication.

15. Corrections and Updates
Substantive factual errors should be corrected promptly and transparently. Developing stories may be updated when additional verified information becomes available.
